Sink

Air moving downwards.

Also known as

  • sinking air standard term

Terms and slang labels apply to this language. Usage may differ in other languages.

What it means

It adds to the glider’s own descent through the air. A negative vario reading alone does not prove sinking air, because a glider also descends in still air.

Example in context

There was sink between the thermals.
